A local basketball player is putting on a three-on-three tournament for a worthy cause.
Cory Thompson, who has starred for the Wolves basketball club over the years, is staging the annual Rodney Bodden three-on-three fundraiser on 17-19 August.
The event started in 2008 and commemorates the life of the late Rodney Bodden, who died of heart failure in 1996 whilst participating in a basketball competition in the Bahamas at the age of 16.
Thompson, who grew up and played basketball with Rodney, came up with the three-on-three idea in honour of his friend. He is currently playing basketball in the UK and is getting a UK-based international basketball company called Rising Ballers to sponsor the tournament.
Part of the revenue generated from the tournament will be donated to the formation of the Rodney Bodden Foundation, which will require a fee of $1,000. There will also be a donation to Rodney’s family, the Cayman Heart Foundation and the Cayman Islands Basketball Association.
