Harper adds to London coverage

Cayman now has two reporters in London.

AtWater Consulting’s Jason Harper has been selected by Sportsmax Broadcasting to cover the Caribbean’s athletes as they participate in the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games. Harper joins Ron Shillingford of Cayman Free Press, who is the official photo-journalist for the Cayman Islands Olympic Committee and is sending reports to all of the media houses in Cayman.

Prior to joining AtWater Consulting in March 2012, Harper worked as a sports reporter at Cayman 27. However, this shift in careers has not hindered his ability to represent the region as a member of the Sportsmax Broadcasting team at another Summer Olympics, rather, it is an opportunity AtWater’s Managing Director Pilar Bush was delighted to explore.

“Jason has developed strong, personal and lasting relationships with many of the Caribbean regions’ finest athletes over the years and we are confident that he will be an asset to Sportsmax as they cover these Summer Olympics,” Bush said. “While we know he is there to cover all of our region’s athletes I must admit that I do hope he is able to secure some of his best coverage when Cayman’s own Olympic athletes – Shaune and Brett Fraser, Ronald Forbes, Kemar Hyman and Cydonie Mothersill – are competing.”

Harper was part of the Caribbean team that covered the record-breaking games in Beijing four years ago. He states London is a dream experience.

“I thought covering the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing was a dream come true, but to be selected a second time, to be part of the team to bring the stories back to the Caribbean, truly is an honour,” Harper said.

“I always wanted to be an Olympian. I haven’t done that, but I have the desire of an athlete so when I face a test, it is imperative that I give it my all. My new career has given me an avenue to do that and I will be giving it my all in London.”

The London 2012 Olympic Games will be broadcasted on Cayman 27 where viewers in the Cayman Islands will hear a familiar voice broadcasting from London.
