Northern Stars lead indoor assault

Indoor volleyball in the Cayman Islands is surging ahead at Camana Bay’s Arts and Recreation Centre.

The Camana Bay National Volleyball League is into week two. Nine squads play on Tuesday nights and eight sides play on Thursdays and the competition features national team talents like Richard Campbell.

The matches are divided into two sections: mens and co-ed. The men’s segment saw KPMG beat Digicel 21-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-14 and Goan Spikers beat Philippines 25-19, 18-25, 28-26, 16-25, 17-15 on Tuesday. The co-ed segment witnessed Philippines win two matches, Notorious D.I.G earn one victory and Six Stars, Crossfit Seven Milers and Unprotected Sets finish winless.

For the Thursday co-ed competition, the rankings see Northern Stars in first at 3-1, followed by 3-1 Storm Volleyball and FBC. After them come 3-1 P2, 2-2 East End, 1-3 Thundercats, 1-3 HSBC, 1-3 P1 and 0-4 UBS Spikers.

Matches continue with Tuesday seeing KPMG against Philippines and Digicel battling Goan Spikers in the mens segment with Crossfit Seven Milers, Six Stars, Philippines Three, FBC and Notorious D.I.G in action for the co-ed category. All of the aforementioned Thursday nights will be in action on Thursday.

The Cayman Islands Volleyball Federation, who is organizing this indoor league, would like to remind players to wear proper volleyball attire like knee pads and ankle braces.
