A major Caribbean art fair is looking for applications from across the region.
The Caribbean Fine Art Fair 2013 has sent out a request for artists to get in touch between now and 31 October for possible inclusion.
The exhibition will feature more than 40 exhibitors showing works of Caribbean ancestry, explains Anderson Pilgrim of the fair. It is scheduled to take place from 6-10 March at the Lloyd Erskine Sandford Center in Bridgetown, Barbados.
“As I’m sure you are aware, the last few years have seen a dramatic increase in the interest for Caribbean art, evidenced by major museum shows, art fairs, and the growing number of the world’s most savvy collectors adding Caribbean art to their collections,” he says. “[This fair] will present another significant opportunity for Caribbean art to be highlighted and for collectors and curators to find highly collectible works.”
Caymanian artists, please
The Cayman Islands has not yet been involved, says Anderson, but based on Weekender coverage of the 2012 art fair, many artists subsequently expressed their interest.
“The fair is seeking to showcases the very best of our region’s visual art to the world. We wholeheartedly invite Caymanian artists to apply and be involved. Artists of Caribbean birth and heritage working within or outside the region are eligible,” Anderson says.
Anderson tells us that there are many different media eligible for inclusion.
“Drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, fine art reproductions, new media are all accepted,” he explains.
The fair will include a special opening night gala, during which a top Caribbean musical act will perform. There will also be daily scheduled events including film screenings, performances and an art symposium. During the first night’s benefit gala, there will also be a presentation for the third annual Caribbean Luminary of the Arts Award.
“This is a very special time for Caribbean art,” Anderson says.
