Rum lover wins Appleton Competition

Persistence pays off, at least for Keith Strang, the latest winner of a Cayman Free Press and Jacques Scott competition.

Mr. Strang has entered every competition he has come across on the Caymanian Compass website since it was launched, he says. He was “over the moon” and waving his arms in the air when he received the call last week informing him he had won the Appleton Competition.

It’s a fitting prize, too, given that Mr. Strang is a big fan of the amber liquid and given the choice, he opts for Appleton.

He and his girlfriend (if she behaves, he says) will be travelling to Jamaica for three days. The prize includes flights, a tour of the Appleton Estate and three nights’ accommodation at Strawberry Hill, the world famous luxury boutique resort high up in the Blue Mountains.

Having toured wineries in the past and given his appreciation of rum, he is also very much looking forward to the touring the Appleton Estate and learning more about the rum-making process. He is hoping he might even be lucky enough to sample 50 year aged rum that was launched in celebration of 50th anniversary of Jamaican independence.
