Rumour has it … there’s a new CDS production on

Rumour has it there’s a great new performance now on at the Cayman Drama Society. And it’s called Rumors.

It’s a comedy by Neil Simon and tonight, Friday, 14 September, is the opening night.

Cast and crew have been hard at work with rehearsals for three months and director Paul Njoka hopes that “the effort that has been put in by the cast and crew will translate into the most professional production ever put up on the CDS stage.”

The cast is a mix of old hands and complete rookies, but all share great enthusiasm for the production.

Chris Sherman, who plays Glen Cooper, has never watched a play in his life, let alone never acted in one.

“I swear up and down that my fellow cast member and producer Adam Cockerill used a Jedi mind trick on me as it had never occurred to me to give theatre a try, yet within literally 1.25 minutes he’d convinced me to try out,” Chris says.

Lack of experience notwithstanding, he has impressed everyone with his dedication and hard work.

“His story has to be one of the proudest moments of this entire production,” says the director.

Other newcomers to the stage include Amanda Parchment, who plays rookie cop Officer Pudney, and Kim Plude, who plays Chris Gorman. According to the director, Kim had what he believes was the best audition he has ever seen from a female actress.

More familiar faces from past CDS productions include Michael McLaughlin, Abbey Le Cornu, Rick Glass, and Adam Cockerill, who also makes his debut as producer of the show.

Angela Harris is no stranger to theatre, although it has been 14 years since she was last on stage and this is her first CDS production. Experienced in all aspects of theatrical production, the challenge with this role, she says, was that the character is her absolute polar opposite.

Teri Lyne takes on the role of Claire Ganz and, although also new to CDS, her voice may be familiar to many from Spin FM radio station. Teri brings a wealth of experience to the production and Paul describes it as a pleasure and an honour to work with her.

The play addresses the comic consequences of a group of well to do socialties trying to cover up the unseemly events that take place at a dinner party. With such a talented and enthusiastic cast, and under the guidance of an experienced director, Rumors has the makings of a very entertaining evening.

Performances will be on every Friday and Saturday at 7.30pm and every Sunday at 5pm* until the end of September.
