Charles ‘Killa’ Whittaker goes into the ring for the most important fight of his long career on Friday and if he wins will challenge for the world title in his next bout.
Whittaker is the United States Boxing Association junior-middleweight champion. He tops the bill against Gabriel Rosado at the Sands Casino in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and that elusive world title shot will become a reality once he gets past the American.
The NBC show is televised live on Cayman 27 from 8pm and all local sports fans will be rooting for Killa hoping that he makes their happy hour complete.
“It’s going to be a great fight,” said Whittaker, ranked No. 2 by the IBF. “Gabriel is young. I’ve seen a few of his fights. He comes hard and he comes in shape. He says he is going to be No.1 and I know I’m going to be No.1 after Friday. The fans are going to be the recipient of a great fight.”
Whittaker, 38, who has not lost a fight in eight years, is 36-12-2, 21 K0s.
Rosado, 20-5, is ranked No.3 by the IBF, has had a big year so far, knocking out Jesus Soto-Karass, of Mexico, and New Yorker Sechew Powell. Rosado, 26, predicts that he will knock Whittaker out by the sixth round, but Killa just scoffs at that notion.
Killa said: “When Rosado called in on Cayman27 TV last week, he didn’t say all that. Usually when you hear all that barking, the dog that’s doing the barking is saying that he’s frightened.”
