Cayman Youth Choir was formed in the spring of 2010, inspired by the pulling together of various singers for events, including the Cayman Arts Festival.
The plan was for a permanent national youth choir of an international standard that could qualify to perform overseas and so on, and to provide the choir with a quality choral experience. It was envisaged that musical directors would change as this would increase the choristers exposure.
The choir is always looking to increase numbers and is preparing for a concert on Saturday, 15 December in Camana Bay, as well as possibly being involved with the Cayman Arts Mini-Festival in February 2013.
The festival’s support of the choir – for singers ages 10 to 14 years – is instrumental in the setting up and continued success of the choir.
Membership is completely free, says Lisa Bowyer of the choir committee. It’s also a great opportunity for children to engage with other singers and musicians and collaborate creatively.
Cayman Youth Choir’s Nicky White is joined by international conductor Ron Corp for the Camana Bay event.
So budding singers – here’s your chance. You can find more about the choir on their Facebook page.
