Man in custody after shot fired, gun and ammo recovered

A 20-year-old man has been arrested and remains in police custody after a shot was fired early Saturday morning in West Bay and a gun and ammunition were recovered a short time later, police said.

At about 3am on Saturday, authorities received a report that a shot had been fired in the area of North West Point Road in Grand Cayman, according to a news release issued Monday by the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service. A vehicle was seen to speed off from the location toward the Cayman Turtle Farm in West Bay. No injuries were reported, police said.

Authorities said officers in George Town spotted the vehicle a short time later at Cayman Islands Hospital. The vehicle was searched and a firearm and ammunition were recovered, police said.

A 20-year-old man was arrested at the location on suspicion of possession of an unlicensed firearm. He remains in police custody while the investigation continues.

  1. I suppose it’s pretty obvious, but I find it heartbreaking that such a high proportion of the Compass reports is about criminal activities and court matters.
