Volunteers for Taste of Cayman needed

The nonprofit Cayman Islands Tourism Association is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Taste of Cayman Food & Wine Festival, which will take place on Saturday, 26 January, from 5 to 11.45pm.

The event is anticipated to attract more than 5,000 attendees who will sample food from more than 40 of Cayman’s most popular restaurants at Camana Bay’s Festival Green Field. This world class festival is also the association’s largest fundraiser, which allows the tourism association to operate and support the tourism community throughout the year. Taste of Cayman, as a charitable event, is made possible by the active participation of the restaurant community, sponsors and the hard work of more than 200 volunteers.

The association said that it encouraged the community to get involved and volunteer.

“It’s a great event and it’s a lot of fun to be involved in this massive team effort! If you are new to the island, it’s a great opportunity to meet other people and if Cayman is your home this is a great way to support the country’s tourism product. The volunteer registration form can be found on the festival website www.tasteofcayman.org or call the association office at 949 8522,” said Erin Bodden of the association.

Lots of people needed

Volunteers are needed leading up to the festival stuffing envelopes, assisting with signage and more at the Cayman Islands Tourism Association office during the day or in the evenings. The association also requires assistance on the day of the festival in a variety of capacities. Opportunities available include ticket sales, ticket collection, information booth representatives, volunteer headquarters check in, supply runners, photo booth operators, bar tenders and bar support. All volunteers are required to be 18 years or older due to the nature of the festival. For a complete list of available volunteer posts, please see the registration form. All volunteers will be required to attend a training and orientation session for the event the week prior to Taste of Cayman to learn their responsibilities, meet their supervisor and get updated event information.

Though volunteers donate their time, there are a lot of hidden costs involved such as fees for a training venue, printing costs, food, T-shirts and a volunteer thank you party.
