If you didn’t get enough of dressing up in crazy costumes at Halloween, there’s still time to don your most dramatic outfit. Big Brothers Big Sisters is holding their inaugural gala fundraiser Cirque de KY: A BBBS Costume Affair on Friday, 2 November.
Go as your favourite celebrity, hero or villain – or just slip into your most elegant piece of couture.
“The event’s concept is a simple one, but with fun elements for our guests,” says Big Brothers Big Sisters fundraising chairwoman Stacy Parke. “Parties do not necessarily have to come in a costume. There is really a choice for guests to come in a costume or fashionably elegant with a mask.”
There will be additional masks at the door for those who need them.
It all takes place in the Governor’s Ballroom at the Westin, starting at 7pm. Tickets include a cocktail reception, dinner, a live band, dancing – and a few other surprises.
To raise additional money, a silent auction will be held and those attending will be able to bid on a variety of items including works of art by local artists, gadgets and autographed sports memorabilia.
The BBSS raffle will also be drawn at the event, with one lucky person winning two roundtrip flights to Miami, tickets to the Miami Heat versus Brooklyn Nets on 1 December, tickets to the Miami Dolphins versus New England Patriots on 2 December, plus a $250 gift certificate for Macy’s.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is a nonprofit organisation that matches volunteer mentors with children who may benefit from the friendship and guidance of an adult outside their own family. BBBS relies on the generosity of corporate sponsors and individual donations to continue their work.
As well as seeking to raise funds for the programme, organisers are also hoping the event will help to attract more volunteers. They can always use an extra pair of hands at their events and, more importantly, currently have over 20 children awaiting appropriate mentors.
Tickets are $150. E-mail [email protected] to reserve.
