The monthly Laughter Lounge Comedy Show is on this weekend and two more brilliant American comedians are lined up for hilarious gigs.
TuRae Gordon from Philadelphia and Percy Crews from Atlanta are getting away from the misery Hurricane Sandy created to lift spirits at the Great Room in the Strand on Friday 2 November and the following night.
“Come early to enjoy the smooth sounds of Rupert aka ‘Franky Sinatra’ Ackerman,” said promoter Rod Jefferson. Ackerman always croons his way through a few numbers to relax the house before the hilarity begins.
TuRae’s comedy career began in the Nineties while attending Temple University. Encouraged by friends, TuRae entered and won his first open mic competition at the iconic Philadelphia Laff House. The club immediately named him house MC providing the opportunity to develop his style.
Drawing on his urban upbringing and general experiences, the failed basketball star and neighbourhood geek draws on his observations superbly.
Five years ago TuRae won the World Cup Comedy Clash at London’s Hackney Empire Theatre in the United Kingdom. He has gone on to much bigger things since so should provide plenty of unique material.
Percy Crews is touring with his new DVD Cruisin’ With Crews, Another stand-up blessed with laser sharp wit and mix of urban charm and worldly awareness. After responding to a dare to face a brutal open mic crowd at the famed West Port Funnybone in his home town, St. Louis, Crews has stormed his way to the top rapidly,
These two promise to enhance the Laughter Lounge rep exponentially.
