Up at the Paseo in Camana Bay on Friday, 2 November there’s sweet sounds from a Cayman band.
Absolute Joy is a four piece predominantly instrumental ensemble featuring Jah Mitch on guitar, Richard Ebanks on bass, Robert Ebanks on drums, Devon Edie on saxophones and occasionally Mr. Notch as a guest vocalist.
The band has been together for about four years and came about as a respite for the members of LocalMotion 345 when Jeán-Eric “Mr. Notch” took a hiatus from the local music scene to devote his attention to being president of The Cayman Music and Entertainment Association, the man himself tells us.
“Our most memorable gig was being featured on the 2009 Jazz Fest as an opening act for Alicia Keys at The Festival Green in Camana Bay,” says Notch.
“Absolut Joy has completed its debut album entitled Straw Hat Jazz and is currently awaiting the finishing post-production touches to be complete before its release.” Notch tells us that the band is looking forward to being busy and spreading the joy for the winter tourist season.
Live on the Paseo runs from 7 to 10pm on Friday, 2 November at Camana Bay and is free.
