Balloons and foam, together at last

Two things occurred to Weekender this week. Firstly, that Weekender is a strange name for a person, and secondly, that Monday, 12 November is a public holiday.

That latter fact explains why there’s quite a few things to do on Sunday, 11 November. Here’s a couple we picked out for ya.

Take Elements, for example. Doors open at 12.01, so it’s officially Monday, for a big bash in aid of DJ Von’s latest Mixtape, House Party Vol. 3.

“It’s a fully clean tape with no cuss words, it’s a good variety and mix of stuff on the CD and has some funny skits in it as well. It’s sponsored by Heineken,” Von says.

The man himself will be playing music alongside Operator TNT and a special guest DJ so expect dancehall, hip hop, RnB and soca sounds until 4am.

There’s also the small matter of a balloon drop to the tune of $2,000 falling outta the sky. Hey, can’t be bad. Ladies, we’re told, are free before 1am otherwise it’s $5 and $15 VIP. Lads have to shell out $10 or $20 for VIP, but then again you might just get your entrance tax back anyway so no harm done, eh?

“It’s always packed, always full,” DJ Von tells us.

“We get people queuing from 11pm just to get at the front of the line. It is a clean atmosphere and a lot of fun. I am very, very excited about it.”

It’s a bit wetter down at Jet as those crazy chaps start at 11.45pm on Sunday, running again to 4am Monday, this time with what they call the ultimate bikini foam party.

Music’s gonna be from DVJ Carter, XS and Ryan and it’s $5 ($15 VIP) for the lasses and $10/$20 VIP for the boys. The music’s a mix of top 40, hip hop, Caribbean, Latin and dance. The info we have here keeps mentioning “sexy ladies in bikinis”, which is very nice if you like that sort of thing. And apparently “the sexiest lady in a bikini” will win a trip to Miami.
