Roy McTaggart announces retirement from KPMG

Kevin Lloyd succeeds as managing partner

After 27 years, Roy McTaggart has announced his retirement as managing partner from KPMG in the Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands. Kevin Lloyd takes over the helm from 30 November, 2012.

Mr. McTaggart joined KPMG in the Cayman Islands in 1985, transferred to Orlando in 1986, and returned to the Cayman Islands in 1988. He was admitted to the partnership in 1991, became joint managing partner in 2003 and appointed as managing partner in 2007.

Mr. McTaggart is a well-respected figure in the business community, and has served as a member of the Financial Services Council, an advisory group to the Cayman Islands government; director of Cayman Finance; council member of the Cayman Islands Society of Professional Accountants; director and chairman of Cayman Airways and president of the Chamber of Commerce. He is a justice of the peace and a public notary of the Cayman Islands.

Under his leadership, he led the growth of KPMG to be the largest accounting firm on Grand Cayman; the first entity in the Cayman Islands to be accredited as an “Investor in People” and, most recently, achieving recognition as the top employer.

Incoming Managing Partner Kevin Lloyd says, “Roy’s distinguished career within KPMG included serving as lead partner on local and international clients, head of Risk Management, and successfully leading our firm through some of the world’s most turbulent market conditions. Roy has always been passionate about the firm and our people, while making a real difference to our business and our communities. He is considered by many to be an ambassador for the Cayman Islands. On behalf of the partners and staff of KPMG, we thank him for his leadership and wish him well in his future endeavors.”

Mr. Lloyd joined the Cayman Islands office of KPMG in 1991, became a partner in 1997 and was appointed as regional head of audit in 2004. He has led the audit practice through significant growth and regulatory change, driving industry specialisation, collaboration, leadership and engagement. His responsibility as partner in charge of People, Performance and Culture has been critical in ensuring that KPMG recruits, develops and retains high performers who are passionate about delivering real value to clients, KPMG said in a statement.

Mr. Lloyd’s client base focuses on entities in the insurance and banking sectors and he served as lead insurance partner for many years.

Mr. McTaggart said, “Kevin and I have worked together for over 21 years, including 16 years as partners, and I have every confidence that he will continue to successfully lead our firm in grasping the opportunities and addressing the challenges that will no doubt continue to arise. I am leaving the firm in very capable and safe hands.”
