Christmas Give Children & Family Services

The Department of Children & Family Services provides support and care for children and families in the Cayman Islands. The Department works with vulnerable individuals, children, families and communities to provide necessary support to function effectively as members of our society and achieve their full potential through professional Social Work, therapeutic services and community-based programmes.

The Department of Children & Family Services started in 1963 as the Probation & Welfare Unit, with the remit to oversee the care and protection of children in the Cayman Islands and provide welfare aid to those in need. After appointing its first director in 1983, the Unit evolved into the Department of Social Services; subsequently becoming the Department of Children & Family Services, as we know it today, in 2003.

Over the years, the Department has had a number of services added to its responsibilities. Today, the busy Department is responsible for a wide scope of matters, including Child Abuse & Neglect; Juvenile Probation, Supervision & Rehabilitation; Adult Special Needs Services, including Maple House Residential Home; Community Development; and Disaster Management, to name a few.

The Department is committed to assisting these individuals and groups to restore or enhance their ability for social functioning, and welcomes donations from the community. Funds are used to assist the Department’s on-going efforts to ensure that the people in our community can overcome some of life’s most difficult challenges: poverty, discrimination, abuse, addiction, physical illness, divorce, loss, unemployment, educational problems, disability and mental illness and provide them with the necessary tools to give them a hopeful future.

This Christmas, support the welfare of our children and help put a smile on a little one’s face by selecting a gift to purchase from the Camana Bay Wish Tree. Located in The Discovery Centre, the Wish Tree is decorated with gift ideas to purchase for children identified by both The CAYS Foundation and Children & Family Services, ensuring your gifts reach to the people who need it most. Toys will be distributed to children in need throughout Cayman in time for Christmas.
