Glass pieces prompt Special K berry cereal recall

The Kellogg Company has recalled three sizes of its Special K Red Berries cereal packages because of the possible presence of glass fragments.

The affected cereal products have been removed from the shelves of Cayman’s grocery stores.

Kellogg says there have been no reports of any injuries associated with the recalled cereal.

The company issued a voluntary recall of its 11.2-ounce package, 22.4-ounce twin pack and 37-ounce box of the cereal.

According to the Kellogg Company, sizes other than these packages are not affected by the recall nor are packages with the letter codes KXA, KXB or KXC, which can be found after the best before date.

The recall affects 11.2-ounce packages with a UPC Code 38000 59923 with a best before date of 2 December, 2013; the 22.4-ounce twin packs with a UPC Code 38000 78356 with a best before date of 30 November, 2013; and 37-ounce package with a UPC Code 38000 20940 with a best before date of 30 November, 2013.

No other Kellogg products have been included in the recall.

Local store Foster’s Food Fair IGA* is urging customers who bought the Special K Red Berries 37.0 ounce packages, which were in stock at its Priced Right stores at the Airport and Republix locations, to return them for a full refund.
