Live on the Paseo’s weekly Friday night music sessions present an opportunity to catch up with what Cayman’s performers are up to. Interestingly, this week’s appearance is an unusual one – DJ Alexi no less.
As well as spinning the discs to get the feet hopping, Alexi’s got a surprise in store, too. Weekender caught up with da man for a few quick words this week.
It’s not only spinning great tunes is it;there’s a live element too.
Robert Arthur is a saxophone player who has been guesting with me at a lot of my weekly gigs, he has a keen ear for my quick transitions and there’s nothing classier than a live sax over some sweet beats to get that perfect social/dinner atmosphere just right.
What are the big tunes of the moment?
Of Monsters and Men – Little Talks (The Knocks remix)
INOJ – Love You Down (Esentrik Remix)
Herbert – It’s Only
Bonobo – Cirrus
Calvin Harris Feat. Florence Welch – Sweet Nothing (Diplo/Grandtheft remix)
Hot Chip – Look At Where We Are (Major Lazer remix)
Bruno Mars/Driicky Graham – Snapbacks Of Heaven (GypsyFoot Trap Re-Work)
Rihanna – Diamonds (Flaxo Stadium Bootleg)
Micheal Jackson – Billie Jean (Nicolas Jaar Re-work)
Feed Me – Little Cat Steps
How’s 2013 looking for you in general?
Great – feeling really blessed, with two healthy and happy girls, one newly born and my beautiful and super supportive wife I feel like it’s all coming together.
I am in the preliminary stages of launching mine and my colleagues Cayman Islands based music label GypsyFoot and of course lining up and collaborating with others to pull off some great events this year under my new entertainment company, Spontaneous, which focuses from the food end to the music end of the spectrum and everything in between.
You can catch DJ Alexi live at the Paseo, Camana Bay from 7 to 10pm, admission free.
