Rising Stars B will be playing for hardware in local netball.
The squad advanced to the finals of the Plate division in the Cayman Islands Netball Association 2013 Open League. The Stars would beat Supa Storm, 28-27, in their semi-final clash at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex netball courts.
Last Thursday’s encounter was a tale of two halves. After enjoying a 17-11 edge at halftime, Storm would falter and lose the second half 10-17. Technical director for Cayman netball, Gillian Lee states the game came down to the waning minutes.
“Wow, what a game. Rising Stars B were down by about four or five goals for most of the game, but just kept working and started making many less unforced errors and capitalized on all opportunities,” Lee said.
“This took them into the lead with five minutes to go. They kept their minds controlled, continued to make good decisions with the ball and were able to remain in the lead by one goal at the siren.”
Guiding the Stars to victory were Goal Shooter Aaliyah Webb, Goal Attack Alexis Carias, Wing Attack Kimberly David and Centre Shanai Allen. Defensively, the likes of Goal Defence Hannah Peralta got the job done. Storm, sponsored by Lone Star, had Kenisha Morris at GS, Olivia Samuels at GA, Mya Dunkley at WA and Alicia Dixon at Centre. Roxanne Walton, GD, steadied the defence.
Stars now go on to face regular season champs Cayman National Bank All Stars B, who crushed the Jets 54-27 in last week’s semis. All Stars have been led all year by offensive duo Karen-Smith James and Terry-Ann Hunter.
The final is slated for this Saturday, 11 May, at 6.30pm inside Camana Bay’s Arts and Recreation Centre. The national championship game is slated to start at 8pm. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for kids under age 12.
