Cayman group enjoys Honduras Carnival

Cayman revellers are basking in success after snatching first place in the luxurious category during the recent La Ceiba Carnival in Honduras.

“Everyone had a great time and we are looking forward to next year,” said organiser Griscela Ebanks. Although not paid for the event, the group representing the Cayman Islands said they felt satisfied just to be promoters of the territory for the past 10 years.

“It started as a marketing project with Money Gram until the Honduras Tourism Department came on board,” Ms Ebanks said. “Since that time, the group has grown to a total of 40 Caymanian participants. This year the trip seemed unlikely because of sponsorship, but when Cayman Airways partnered with Money Gram the trip was made possible.”

Every year, talented designers such as Cayman designer Reba Dilbert and Roger Hicks of Trinidad and Tobago lend their expertise with costume designs and creations, while organiser Griscela Ebanks makes sure everyone is comfortable. During the parade, the Cayman group walked more than 10 miles with other bands from Latin America, dancing, giving out souvenirs and having a good time. The parade included floats from Mexico, Taiwan and the Cayman Islands, among others.
