East End a few slams away from taking season crown again

East End Mystical Youth are on the cusp of more domino glory.

The Mystical Youth are undefeated atop the Cayman Islands Domino Association 2012-2013 national league standings with one regular season match remaining. That contest was slated to be held this weekend but, according to an association statement, it was postponed.

The statement reads, “The final league match was scheduled to take place at Pirates Cove bar in East End on Sunday, 14 July, between Mystical Youth and Island All-Stars. It had to be postponed until further notice due to a funeral taking place in East End on that same date. We will inform you of the dates of the playoffs very soon.”

East End, the reigning national champions, were among the teams in action last Sunday. The Mystical Youth would beat the Roti squad, representing Singh’s Roti Shop, by 76 points. Clinton Peddie and Calvin Solomon guided the league leaders to victory.

Last Sunday’s other result saw Island All-Stars defeating DLK by 22 points. While a team effort guided Oleta Elliott’s All-Stars, Najala Brown and Nicola Eccleston were the stars for DLK.

Heading into this weekend, the standings show Fred McLaughlin’s East End crew well out in front at 13-0 with 3,900 points and a score of 65. All-Stars, 10-3, are second with 3,827 points and a score of 50. Archies, 9-5, are third with 4,053 points and a score of 45 points and DLK, 7-7, currently sit fourth with 3,570 points and a score of 35.

All four clubs are no strangers to playoff dominoes, having made the postseason last year.

The bottom tier of the 2013 rankings see 5-9 Sea Inn with 3,508 points and a score of 25, 4-10 Eastern Star with 3,682 points and a score of 20 and 4-10 Roti with 3,6662 points and a score of 20.
