The Cayman Islands women’s 7s rugby squad will soon be recruiting for a squad geared towards qualifying for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
The free training boot camp, is on Sunday 1 September at the Rugby Club in South Sound from 3pm.
It is an opportunity for female members of the public to learn the sport and to be trained by a select group of experienced International Rugby Board qualified coaches, a world class strength and conditioning coach with video analysis and receive men’s national squad player demonstrations.
Qualifying for the next Olympic Games rugby is the main long-term ambition of the women’s 7s squad, but rugby will also be a competitive sport at the annual North American and Caribbean Regional Championships, the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games, the 2014 Youth Olympic Games, the 2015 Pan-American Games, the 2015 Islands Games and the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games.
For any female interested in a tryout, no rugby experience is necessary. All that is needed is sports clothing, training shoes, enthusiasm, energy and commitment.
