Christmas may seem pretty far away but one festive event many people are already looking forward to is the annual Jingle Bell Walk/Run.
This year, it will be held at the new location of the Holiday Inn Resort Grand Cayman, formerly the Grand Caymanian, from 7 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8, over the usual 5K and 10K distances.
The event is a major fundraiser for the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre and attracts hundreds of participants as the family event of the holiday season. With a protected venue off the main road, all members of the family can safely participate.
The cost is $20, under-12 are free and entry includes a T-shirt, breakfast with Santa and raffle prizes.
The Jingle Bell event is now in its 11th year, while organizers have an extra incentive to join in – the Respect Me challenge.
The Cayman Islands Crisis Centre is about restoring women’s sense of self-respect.
Anyone can participate in the challenge, whether or not they are runners, spectators, volunteers or walkers. Organizers are asking people to challenge themselves to pledge to do something important – a personal goal based on health, fitness, positive self-image and self-respect.
Individuals will ask others to sponsor them in a simple personal goal, such as merely finishing the race, giving up French fries, volunteering at the event, or any other activity that will empower them.
