Sluggers prep for Spring season

Local Little League is gearing up for its 25th season.

The Cayman Islands Little League Association is conducting player evaluations and registration for the 2014 campaign, which will mark Little League’s 25th season in existence. Catering to kids ages 5-16 at no charge, registration can be done online or at the Field of Dreams.

Two player evaluation sessions are scheduled this month. The A division – for kids ages 9-10 – takes center stage on Tuesday, Dec. 10, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, Dec. 14, two groups will be in action from noon to 3 p.m. as the AA group caters to boys age 11-12 and the AAA segment is designed for boys age 13-16.

A pair of additional sessions will take place early next month. On Jan. 4, 2014, all divisions will be evaluated from noon to 3 p.m.

The final day for registration and evaluations for all divisions is Jan. 7 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The 2014 season runs from January until early June. Little League in Cayman started in 1989 and games were first played on the Field of Dreams facility in 1998. Since then, about 400 children and more than 500 adults play weekly at the Field of Dreams during a given season.
