A number of rookie clubs are hoping to continue their good form.
The 2013-2014 Appleby Netball League, put on by the Cayman Islands Netball Association, is playing its first games for the New Year. The Truman Bodden Sports Complex netball courts will host four games on Thursday, Jan. 23. At 6:45 p.m., the Ernst and Young Hot Shots battle the Affinity Sapphires while the Spirits challenge the University College of the Cayman Islands. At 8 p.m., Blue Diamonds face Lights International while Rising Stars B contend with Jacques Scott Social. All of those matches are in division two of the competition.
According to the last available standings, All Stars B are in first place at 4-1. Affinity, 4-0, are second, ahead of 3-2 Blue Diamonds, 3-2 Rising Stars B, 2-1 Lights, 1-3 Ernst and Young, 1-3 Spirits, 0-3 Jacques Scott and 0-3 UCCI. All Stars are succeeding with an experienced core of ladies such as Karen Smith-James, Terry-Ann Hunter and Brittany Mobley.
Division one is slated to resume next Tuesday, Jan. 28, as Conyers All Stars face Unity at 8 p.m. All Stars, the reigning national champions behind the likes of Nicola Williams, remain in the hunt to repeat at 1-1. They trail 2-1 Rising Stars A – who feature players like Marcia Moiten – and 2-0 Roma while leading 0-2 Flames Strikers and 0-2 Unity.
