As International Women’s Day draws near, the Family Resource Centre is inviting companies and organizations to take part in the first Wellness of Women exposition to be held in the Cayman Islands.
The expo will be held on International Women’s Day, Saturday, March 8, at the Arts and Recreation Centre in Camana Bay.
Organizers say the event aims to bring together local service providers, practitioners, and facilitators of wellness programs. The plan is for local companies and organizers to host wellness sessions for participants at the expo.
In keeping with this year’s International Women’s Day theme and focus on women’s self-care, the expo aims to “Inspire Change: From the Inside Out” in girls and women.
The Family Resource Centre’s program coordinator Miriam Foster said, “We hope attendees will get a chance to explore demonstration classes and presentations on all aspects of wellness, including but not limited to physical, emotional and spiritual.”
She added, “The truth is, women often do not include themselves on their own list of priorities – which can affect the people they care for as well as themselves. Through this self-care expo, we hope girls and women will get an opportunity to learn skills that will allow them to grow in all aspects of wellness.”
Attendees will also have an opportunity to participate in various exercises and mental and physical health information sessions will also be available.
Organizers said that companies that wish to participate are requested to provide free 20 minutes classes/sessions between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., although alternative arrangements can be made. Those companies should indicate the space their session will require and describe of what the session will about.
Companies will need to confirm their participation by Friday, Feb. 14.
Ms Foster said that by promoting access and exposure to wellness resources, corporate participation might encourage girls and women to make themselves a priority and, as a result, inspire change in the way that they view themselves.
The annual International Women’s Day celebrates the social, political and economic achievements of women while focusing attention on areas requiring further action.
