Customs staff have honored their peers in the reinstated annual recognition awards for customs officers.
Awards were handed out in six categories. A senior management committee chose six winners out of 25 nominees.
The award for Officer of the Year went to Glarman “Bobo” Grant, Senior Customs Officer (Sea Freight); the Administrative Support Officer of the Year (Admin/Accounts/Cashier/Tally/IT) was Accounts Officer Michael Bartlett; Customs (Junior) Officer of the Year was Tina Campbell of Narcotics Enforcement; Senior Customs Officer of the Year went to Senior Customs Officer (Freight Security Initiative), Philip West; Assistant Collector of the Year went to Assistant Collector (Airport), Gidget Powell; and Porter/Warehouse Officer of the Year went to Porter Robert Scott.
The officers received awards and certificates of appreciation.
Collector of Customs Samantha Bennett said that recognition by peers could be one of the “greatest motivators” for staff members and said this would an annual feature.
“Mr. Grant, for instance, was nominated by a number of his peers in recognition of his leadership, his supervisory skills and especially the quality of his service to our customers,” she said. “It was inspiring to see other staff members nominate their colleagues and recognize them for their efforts and diligence at work.”
Criteria for the awards included attitude and professionalism towards both colleagues and the general public, and looked at communication skills, sociable personality, positive approach, courteous behavior, ability to carry out work requirements and willingness to accept constructive criticism.
