District Council selects new chairman

Maxine Bodden Robinson succeeds Stanley Panton

North Side residents attending their monthly district council meeting Thursday night selected Maxine Bodden Robinson as the new chairman of the council executive board. The vacancy occurred after former chairman Stanley Panton stepped down.

MLA Ezzard Miller explained that although council members may reside anywhere in the Cayman Islands, officers must be resident in the district. Mr. Panton has recently relocated.

Mr. Miller thanked him for his service. He then saluted Mrs. Robinson as “chairperson of the only functional district council in the Cayman Islands.”

Mrs. Robinson thanked members “for putting your faith in me.”

The 2009 Constitution provides for the establishment of “Advisory District Councils” to operate as advisory bodies to the elected Members of the Legislative Assembly.

On Thursday night, Mr. Miller provided an update on parliamentary matters and raised issues of current interest, including new development. He especially asked for input on road proposals.

The next meeting is set for Thursday, March 27, at 8 p.m. in the civic center.
