The Lighthouse School is one step closer to integrating new smart boards in its classrooms thanks to the help of volunteers and donors who participated in a breakfast fundraiser at the school.
“It was a great event with fellowship and a nice turnout from the community,” said the school’s vice president, Gerald Joseph. “We had donations from a number of people and we had good assistance from the Youth Culinary group. It went well. The money raised will go towards purchasing smart boards for the classroom.”
Some 100 people attended the event and feasted on a Caribbean and continental breakfast, prepared by volunteers from the National Youth Culinary Program.
Around $2,700 was donated to help the school reach its goal. However, smart boards are costly, Mr. Joseph said, noting that the standard price is around $4,500 per board.
Highlights of the event included inspiring messages from pastors across the island who shared prayers for the teachers, parents and students.
The Lighthouse School caters to young people ages 5 to 18 with special educational needs.
