Trial set for alleged gold theft

Defendant also faces nine counts of transferring criminal property

Evon George Robinson, 35, pleaded not guilty on Friday to one count of stealing gold with a value of $30,733.36 from Cash Wiz between November 2011 and March 2012.

He also entered pleas of not guilty to nine counts of transferring criminal property – quantities of gold – between January 2012 and April 2012.

The quantities ranged from 7.4 penny weights to 137.4 penny weights of 14-karat gold and 13.10 penny weight of 10-karat gold.

A penny weight is a jeweler’s measure equal to about 1.56 grams or 1/20 of a troy ounce.

The gold in each count was allegedly transferred to either Cash for Gold or Cayman Precious Metals.
