Elite hopefuls targetting US route

Former Elite Sports Club players Mark Ebanks and Jessus Ebanks are in California hoping to carve a football career for themselves in the United States.

They have signed a contract with recently formed semiprofessional club Temecula, who play in the National Premier Soccer League.

“Temecula’s main focus is sending quality players for tryouts across Europe and mainly in the Major League Soccer,” said Mark. The league season starts on Saturday.

The Caymanian duo joined Temecula last month. Striker Mark, 23, has played one competitive game so far, setting up two goals in their 4-2 victory.

Jessus, 26, plays center-attacking midfield or up front with Mark.

“We are waiting for the team house to be finished where all the foreign players will be staying,” added Mark. “Every day that a new player joins, the competition gets harder which makes the team better.

Jessus and I have already established ourselves as first team starters.”

Mark said that the tryouts to bigger clubs will be at the end of the season in August and their coach, Paul Byrne, a former Celtic player, has taken a great liking to the pair.
