City fans enjoying shift of power

Manchester United’s season continues to slump under new manager David Moyes, and fans of their arch-rivals Manchester City are ecstatic after watching for 26 years former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson win countless trophies.

Howard McCarthy and his daughter Amy are lifelong City fans. Watching City cruise to a 3-0 victory over United at Fidel Murphy’s on Tuesday was an excellent start to his vacation here. Amy arrived in Grand Cayman two months ago to work as a chef.

Originally from Wythenshawe, Manchester, McCarthy’s family moved to Ireland years ago, and he is now based in Galway but still a regular at City games. He even went to Wembley to watch them win the Carling Cup three weeks ago.

McCarthy is certain that if City beats Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday they will go on to overtake league leaders Chelsea and regain the title they won two years ago in dramatic fashion ahead of United on the season’s last day.

McCarthy is extremely confident that City will win the league mainly because of the superlative form of Yaya Toure, who has scored 21 times from midfield and been one of the Premiership’s outstanding players.

“Cometh the hour, cometh the man, Yaya has been unbelievable,” said McCarthy. “I was sorry when Roberto Mancini left as manager, but he took us as far as he could and the new one, Manuel Pellegrini, is taking us on again now.

“The players he brought during the summer have been fantastic, especially the Brazilian lad Fernandinho.”

McCarthy joked that former boxer Ricky Hatton, who is a big City supporter, would be a better manager than Moyes.
