Attorney wins alumnus award

The University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus has chosen Cayman Islands attorney David Ritch as its Alumnus of the Month.

Mr. Ritch, whose picture will be hung in the main campus lobby, was awarded for his contribution to the legal fraternity in the Cayman Islands and for his appointment as chairman of CIBC First Caribbean International Bank.

“To be recognized by my alma mater university for career and lifetime achievements will always be a high water mark in my life,” said Mr. Ritch. “I hope that in some small way this may serve as a beacon of encouragement, particularly to young Caymanians, to pursue their dreams, whatever they may be.”

Mr. Ritch earned an honors law degree from the university and went on to qualify as a barrister in London. He later joined the Bar of the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple in 1976 and began a career in the Cayman Islands courts as the clerk of courts. He later became Crown counsel and senior Crown counsel in the chambers of the attorney general. He is currently senior partner with Ritch & Conolly, where he has practiced law for the past 30 years.

The Alumnus of the Month Award was launched in 2008 to recognize the achievement of excellence of graduates of the Cave Hill Campus.
