Wanda Brenton can boast that she is officially the fittest female CrossFit exponent in the Caribbean.
Over the weekend, Brenton won the women’s individual title at the 2014 CrossFit Games Latin America Regional in Santiago, Chile.
The title earns her a spot in the upcoming 2014 Reebok CrossFit World Games in Carson, California. The World Games begin July 25.
Canadian Brenton was representing the CrossFit 7 Mile gym. It was an incredible feat considering she was much older than other competitors and in a few months, when she turns 40, will qualify for the masters division.
Before leaving, modest Brenton said that she was optimistic but not pinning her hopes on winning because competition would be extremely high.
She won three of the seven events and finished second in two more. She beat out 29 other competitors and earned the win by two points over the second-place athlete.
Brenton’s qualification to the World Games is the latest in a string of successful runs for the Cayman Islands at the CrossFit Games.
CrossFit 7 Mile won the team title in three of the last four years and CrossFit Cayman’s Tarasa Barnett won the women’s title in 2011 and 2012 and finished runner-up in 2013.
