Customs will ‘train’ public on tariffs

The Cayman Islands Customs Department will conduct daily public training on new tariff codes implemented with a change in local law that took effect in March.

The public meetings will be conducted between May 20-30 between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. The meetings will be held at customs headquarters on Airport Road.

Any large importers, local businesses and customs brokers are encouraged to attend the sessions which will discuss correct procedures for filling out customs forms and update the public on the department’s import handling processes.

The commencement of the Customs Tariff Law (2012) on March 1 brought about the introduction of an international tariff classification system. The tariffs charged to items imported into the Cayman Islands list approximately 5,000 codes for various dutiable goods.

Individuals who wish to attend these workshops should confirm their attendance by calling Ardell Pearson or Sharla Barron at customs headquarters, at 949-4579 or email [email protected] or [email protected]
