The sea swim season continues this weekend with another well established event.
The 12th Annual Butterfield 800 meter swim is on Saturday, starting at 4 p.m., with registration from 3 to 3:45 p.m. at Public Beach.
It runs south, parallel to Seven Mile Beach from Public Beach, and ends at Governors Beach.
This is the Cayman Island Amateur Swimming Association’s second sea swim this year and the last chance for an official warm-up swim before the 22nd Flowers One Mile on June 14.
“Open water swimming is a wonderful way to stay fit and enjoy the warm, clear waters of our Islands,” said Butterfield’s Rebecca Ebanks. “As part of our community focus, Butterfield encourages fitness activities supporting wellness, and we are pleased to once again partner with the swimming association to host this annual event. We invite swimmers of all levels to come out and take part in this delightfully active afternoon.”
Registration fees are $20 for adults and $15 for children under 16 with a $5 discount for CIASA members.
“Butterfield’s commitment to Cayman swimming over the years is greatly appreciated,” said CIASA President Michael Lockwood. “I know that a number of Butterfield staff members are avid swimmers and I look forward to seeing them all at the start on Saturday.”
All swimmers are provided with swim caps, which must be worn for safety reasons, and there are event T-Shirts and trophies for the top three male and female finishers in each age group. Subway sandwiches and refreshments are provided at the end of the race.
