Fitness lovers flex their muscles

Bodybuilding in the Cayman Islands will take center stage once again.

A fitness show – entitled Fitness Extravaganza 2014 – is set to hit the stage on June 7 from 6 p.m. at Camana Bay’s Arts and Recreation Center. Competition categories will include men and women: Bikini, Physique, Figure and a special guest poser for Bodybuilding. The event is catering to both beginners and seasoned pros as amateur and open classes will be present in each segment.

Jason Smith of Monster Nutrition is among the show organizers and says there is a need for more bodybuilding exhibitions here.

“Our goal is to rejuvenate the fitness market in Cayman, as the last fitness show on island was over three years ago,” Smith said. “We are very excited to be able to put on this show and give our local athletes a stage to showcase their hard work.”

The show will also be promoting health and fitness to the local community, with available gym/personal trainers in the vendor area to discuss nutrition and work out routines to help the general public reach their goals.

The pre-judging portion of the show will be held at 10 a.m. the morning of the show, with the main event taking place at 6 p.m. General and VIP tickets are now on sale at Monster Nutrition, World Gym, Kings Gym, and Universal Fitness, and part of the ticket proceeds will be donated to the athletes of Special Olympics Cayman Islands.

Organizer Jenique Smith says the goal is to create an annual event.

“Our goal is to make this an annual fitness event that will eventually attract international competitors and turn Cayman into a fitness tourism destination,” Jenique Smith said. “I definitely encourage everyone to get involved whether it’s with competing, or attending as an audience member- we’d love to have you be a part of Fitness Extravaganza 2014. Come out and support our local athletes, it’s going to be a show not to be missed!”

Jason Smith has encouraged bodybuilders like Lennox Seymour over the years.
