World Athletics Day meet celebrates youth

The Cayman Islands Athletic Association is one of the 123 IAAF member federations that will take part in the IAAF World Athletics Day.

Now in its 19th year, the IAAF World Athletics Day is one of the busiest programs of competitions in the athletics calendar.

World Athletics Day promotes the sport through youth participation in clubs and schools and establishes an important link between youngsters, the sport and environmental conservation.

Some of the athletes who did so well at the Baytaf meet last weekend and the CARIFTA Games at Easter will be competing. They include Tiffany Cole, Kiara McLaughlin, Daneliz Thomas and Jacob Scott.

Cayman’s meet is at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex this Saturday at 4 p.m. and will be used as a qualifier for the Caribbean Union of Teachers Championships in Trinidad and Tobago on July 25-26. Some also hope to qualify for the Central American and Caribbean Championships in Guatemala later this year.
