Jason Saunders is one of the top middle distance runners in Cayman, but he will not be competing for a while after a cycling accident two weeks ago left him battered and unable to walk.
Saunders was hit by a car and suffered bruises and sprains all over his body. Thankfully, nothing was broken but he was pretty shaken up.
The 37-year-old gardener went for treatment at the Cayman Islands Hospital and was discharged, but the injuries were so painful that he went back for more treatment the next day.
Jamaican Saunders was hoping to run in the three Fidelity Fun Run series starting next week, but he is weeks away from being able to train seriously. However, he is still hopeful of being fit enough to run the Cayman Half Marathon on Dec. 7.
“I’m in a lot of pain still but hopefully will be running again soon,” he said.
