The Brenda Tibbetts Lund Memorial 5K walks/runs take place every year, organized by the Lions Club of Tropical Gardens and Lions Club of Cayman Brac. The Grand Cayman runs are held in October as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The 5K on Cayman Brac is on Sept. 20, at 6 a.m. from the Brac Reef Resort, with the course stretching to Foster’s Corner and back.
Registration is $10 at the Brac Reef Hotel on Sept. 19 from 5 p.m. and is also available on race day from 5:30 a.m.
Immediately after the event, participants are invited to join a Breast Cancer Awareness Meeting: “Living with and surviving cancer” to be held at the Brac Reef Resort Conference Room.
For more details on the Brac 5K, contact Maureen at 929-7884.
On Oct. 11, there will be a walk/run on Grand Cayman, at North Side, and the following day another one in George Town.
The memorial walk/runs, in their 17th year, are in memory of Brenda Tibbetts Lund, who lost her battle with breast cancer. Her husband Kim Lund created the events in her memory.
The events raise funds to fight breast cancer and to promote the importance of early detection as the best protection in this fight. The events also celebrate the survivors of breast cancer.
Last year, more than 650 walkers and runners turned out for the events at Kaibo Restaurant Beach Bar and the Holiday Inn, Grand Caymanian Hotel.
