The Health Services Authority has implemented a new pharmacy system at Cayman Islands Hospital which may improve wait times for clients, according to health officials.
“The main changes will occur in the pharmacy at the hospital, with a token system in place,” according to a press release issued by the Health Services Authority. “This will provide clients with a more accurate wait time, and allow for more effective and reliable filling of prescriptions.”
The new token system was developed by Suvarna Technosoft, a healthcare management software provider based in India.
Clients who enter the pharmacy will be given a numbered token and asked to take a seat to wait until their number is called. When their number is called, the client is expected to hand in their prescription and insurance card.
Clients can wait for their prescription to be filled or they can leave and return later. If they choose to leave, they will need to scan their token again to be placed back into the queue.
“This system will revolutionize the way we work, give us greater control over our stock levels and also ensuring that patients are given the highest level of care we can offer,” said Colin Medford, chief pharmacist of the Health Services Authority.
The Survarna system will also link to a patient web portal online, which is scheduled to launch before the end of the year, according to health officials.
Posters have been placed around the hospital which outline the new token system.
