A cool million for a golfing hole-in-one

A million dollars is up for grabs in Cayman Crime Stoppers’ annual golf tournament.

Individuals will vie for one of 15 spots to participate in the shoot out in which $1 million awaits the first person to get a hole-in-one.

The tournament on Oct. 10 at the North Sound Golf Club is the organization’s major fundraising initiative for the year.

“This is always a great afternoon of golf, prizes and networking, but most importantly, it funds our efforts to reduce crime in Cayman for a whole year,” said a Crime Stoppers spokesman.

The money raised is used to operate the confidential tip line and the offer of rewards for information that leads to the arrest of a criminal or solves a crime.

So far, in the history of the tournament, no one has won the million dollars, but Crime Stoppers is hoping someone will walk away with it this year.

Crime Stoppers will not incur any expenses if someone wins – the amount will be wholly covered by an insurance policy donated by the Security Centre.

The fee for teams of four is $1,000* and covers green and cart fees, lunch and a goodie bag. Teams will compete in a scramble format tournament, with prizes for the top three teams.

Prizes are also offered for first, second and third place teams, as well as for closest to the pin and longest drive, among others.
