Barbados begins challenge by upsetting depleted Cayman

The Challenge Trophy began with a flourish as a number of batsmen made some big scores over the weekend.

Half centuries were recorded by Deno McInnis and Zachary McLaughlin, while Ramon Sealy hit a superb 42.

Barbados defeated a depleted Cayman Islands team by 39 runs at Smith Road Oval. Sealy, now back from a stint in England, was cool and calculating, providing a new, mature approach in scoring 42 and was supported by Kirkpatrick Clarke 28. Only McLaughlin’s 64 provided any resistance as Barbados moved to victory.

At the Jimmy Powell Oval, Jamaica’s Deno McInnis 77 not out was a delightful performance stroking boundaries at will.

India never gave up, restricting Jamaica to 143 for 6. Excellent bowling by Adrian Wright, captain Conroy Wright and veteran pacer Kenute Tulloch kept India to only 91 runs.

The Commonwealth against World Stars match was rained out.
