Camana Bay tournament celebrates men and boys on the pitch

A friendly football tournament looks like it has become a fixture of the International Men’s Day activities.

Some 100 players participated in the games last month at Camana Bay’s Sports Field, where the tournament helped to encourage young boys and men to engage in positive male bonding and at the same time, in healthy activity.

First place winners Team United (ages 16 and up), sponsored by the Office of Complaints Commissioner, and Team YFP (ages 13-15), sponsored by Cayman National Bank, won the $500 cash prize for their respective age groups.

Each year, the Cayman Islands joins other countries around the world that annually celebrate the achievements of men and boys. Led by the Department of Counseling Services’ Family Resource Centre, this is the fourth year the tournament has formed a part of the International Men’s Day program on island. Organizers expressed special thanks to event sponsors Davenport Development, Island Taste, Estella Scott-Roberts Foundation, Cayman National Bank, Office of the Complaints Commissioner and Dart.
