A 12-year-old female angler reeled in her first big fish, a whopping wahoo weighing 56.5 pounds.
Raegan Rutty caught it on New Year’s Day while trolling off the south coast of Grand Cayman with her parents Gary and Angel Rutty and her grandmother Nancy on board Sir Peanut.
Rutty pulled in the fish by herself, refusing help from anyone and landed it in about 25 minutes.
She promptly sold the wahoo to Grand Old House to buy a computer.
Rutty is an all-around athlete specializing in gymnastics. When not out on the ocean, she trains at Motions Unlimited Gym up to 20 hours a week.
Her dream is to represent Cayman at the 2020 Olympics in gymnastics.
