The Cayman Islands Sailing Club held its J22 Ridley National Championship over the weekend.
Just Leaving blew by all the boats in the fleet, winning all seven races. Caio! helmed by Jane Moon placed second, with Eduardo Bernal’s Calima finishing third.
This event welcomed the newest J22 boat to the island, Loca Loki, with her new owners Suvi Hayden and Karin McGrath christening their vessel in its first race.
Winning the J22 Ridley National Championship is an honor eagerly sought by all the boats in the J22 fleet.
Just Leaving and its championship winning team sponsored by Yellow Pages will get its name on the memorial trophy for the third consecutive year, but it is all the more distinctive to win the championship during the sailing club’s 50th anniversary year.
First day racing finished with homemade cakes served dockside and the trophy presentation dinner on Sunday catered by Champion House.
The next sailing club event will be a fish cookout on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 18, from 1-4 p.m. and is open to all, $10 plate with a soft drink, $12 a plate with a choice of cold beer.
