Six months after breaking ground on four new affordable houses on the Brac, the Sister Islands Affordable Housing Development Corp. handed the keys to the last new owner on Friday.
All four of the new homes are now occupied.
Lorraine Brown is moving into the three-bedroom house at Wavering Place, one of the four new homes adjacent to an older development of 12 affordable housing units on the northern coast of the island.
Moses Kirkconnell, minister for tourism and Sister Islands MLA, said, “The demand for well built, affordable homes is growing in Cayman Brac and I am very pleased that through the prudent management of government funds, we have been able to provide the Sister Islands Affordable Housing Development Corporation with funding to construct four more homes in this development.”
A press release quotes Mr. Brown: “This is a dream come true, and I cannot tell you what a difference it will make for me and to my family. Inside, the house is well designed and there is even space to put a garden.”
A Ministry of District Administration spokeswoman said the houses were all contracted to local Brac contractors after an open tender process.
