Gumbs revamps netball set up in time for new season

The netball league resumes this week and matches at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex pit UCCI against All Stars A and Socialites Facing Lights International on Thursday.

Nine teams are in the league but, surprisingly, reigning champs Roma have not entered.

Rising Stars, Affinity and Socialites are expected to challenge All Stars, the strongest team left.

New netball technical director Andrea Gumbs has introduced a weekly player of the match award which will culminate in the player who has received the most nominations getting a prize at the end of the season.

A former player, coach and international administrator in England, Gumbs has vast netball experience.

She added that she would like to see more players, coaches and volunteers involved in local netball.

She has advised the adult league program on schedule and format changes, introduced a new scoring system and also recruited fresh umpires and scorers from each team.

She has also set up a junior program for primary schools and is developing the Turtle Netters junior netball club on Saturday mornings.
