Wanderers kicked it in Jamaica

Heineken Sunday League winners OtisAir Wanderers represented Cayman in Jamaica last week after being invited to a take part in a three-team football tournament.

The squad traveled to the Prospect area in the St. Catherine parish to play two local teams, Marcus Garvey and Nalice.

In their first match against Nalice, the Wanderers were 3-1 winners, with captain for the game Derron Campbell scoring a first-half brace and strike partner Andre Berghuas notching the third from the spot. Nalice claimed a consolation goal when defender Rob Moorhead struck a curling shot past his own keeper for a spectacular own goal.

In their second match, against Marcus Garvey, who themselves had recently lifted their own league title, the Wanderers failed to recover from losing an early goal from a set piece inside the first three minutes.

Garvey were the fitter and stronger side, and although the Wanderers delivered a strong second-half performance, hitting the woodwork twice, they couldn’t score, with Garvey good value for their 3-0 win.

In the remaining match, Marcus Garvey defeated Nalice 6-1 to win the tournament.

Wanderers club captain Rob Moorhead was delighted with the way the tour went. “It was a great trip and a satisfying way to end the season with the team,” he said. “The two local teams were very welcoming and provided a real test for the Wanderers, especially Marcus Garvey, who were well organized and had several excellent players in their squad.”

Plans are already being made to make a similar trip next year.
