The Lions Club of Grand Cayman has appointed a new president and board of directors.
President Ewan Jacques succeeds Rayle Roberts. Accepting his position at an installation ceremony last month at Guy Harvey’s Restaurant and Bar, Mr. Jacques said, “I am humbled by the opportunity of being responsible for this club which, for the past 42 years, has strongly rendered service to our community.
“I am cognizant of the various challenges we will have to face and those that are yet [unknown]. However, I am confident that with the shared effort of this club, there is no challenge we cannot overcome collectively.”
Mr. Jacques acknowledged Mr. Roberts’s many achievements, including organizing the Prostate and Colon Cancer Event, the all-island Christmas party, the Lions Community Centre restoration, Big Brothers Big Sisters and MOvember, among other projects.
In addition to Mr. Jacques, the new board of directors includes Mr. Roberts, first vice president Tannya Mortimer, second vice president Ian Yearwood, third vice president Stephen Best, secretary Donnel O’Sullivan, treasurer Ian Callow, tamer Terry Siklenka, tail twister Walton Gooding, two-year directors Carmin Godfrey and Steve Surrey, one-year directors Rebecca Jones and Lynval Watkins, and membership director Albert Anderson.
Seven new members were also inducted into the Lions Club in a ceremony on June 4. Immediate past membership director Anthony Ritch said the number of inductees was a record for the club “in terms of the number of people inducted in one ceremony and we are really proud of these new members.”
